New Jersey Wildlife Action Plan Comment Form - Goals

The goals of the New Jersey Wildlife Action Plan Update are:

To refine the 2005 Plan by narrowing the number of species to focus conservation efforts on so as to improve their condition over the next five years.
To select several conservation opportunity areas where the conservation community can address threats to species and habitats within each area.

Narrowing the number of species the Plan will focus on allows targeted attention by the conservation community (all species of greatest conservation need will continue to be listed in the plan). The condition/status of all New Jersey's species of greatest conservation need will be assessed and those species with a high conservation need, with known threats and actions that can readily be addressed, will be focused on. The number of species of greatest conservation need is overwhelming and it is only by focusing on one sub-set of species at a time can we hope to successfully address the threats and improve or maintain their status/populations.

Conservation opportunity areas are geographic locations where the conservation community can undertake actions to improve the conditions not only of the focal species but of other species relying on the same habitats.
