Hunter Education Field Session and Exam Information
Hunter Education field sessions and exams are now being offered; see the course schedule and registration page. Students are reminded that they should make every effort to attend a spring hunter education class to avoid the fall rush and the possibility of missing the hunting season.
The final component of a Hunter Education Home Study Course is the field session and course exam. Field sessions and exams are offered at several locations throughout New Jersey every weekend March through November (excluding July when only weekday classes are held, and holiday weekends) at at least one location. Sessions are also held on several weekdays for added convenience.
Trapping classes, when scheduled, are posted on the Trapping Information page.
Students must complete the home study materials prior to attending a field session. Students are encouraged to complete a practice exam prior to attending a field session.
The dates and locations of sessions are found on the Division's Internet license Web site. Upon completing the home materials students should review the schedule at www.wildlifelicense.com/nj/ for the one that best fits their schedule.
Students register using that Web site. (See www.njfishandwildlife.com/hntedreg.htm for registration information; for assistance call 856-629-0552 or 877-2-HUNT-NJ, or e-mail njhuntered@dep.state.nj.us.)
All students under 18 are required to have a signed Consent Form (pdf, 9kb) with them at the field session/exam.
NOTE: Students are required to arrive at the session location at 8am (unless noted otherwise) with their completed workbook. Anyone arriving after the start time or without a completed workbook will not be admitted to the session.
Field sessions/exams are available for all three disciplines - Basic Firearm, Archery and Muzzloader/Rifle - at each location. Sessions are held rain or shine. Participants should come prepared for the weather and to be outdoors for at least 4 hours. The length of your session depends on the number of disciplines being completed - students can take all three if prepared to do so.
Materials are available at specified vendors or through the mail and at Division offices.
