Cattle can also be an effective control of purple loosestrife. An ungrazed portion of this wetland is completely invaded by purple loosestrife, identified by the dense sea of magenta on the left; a portion grazed by dairy cows on the right has a dramatic reduction in the degree of invasion. Grazing, together with trampling, allows native plants to grow.
