NOTE: The Pequest Trout Hatchery has met the baseline production figures and distributed surplus fish during Weeks 6 and 7. Trout will remain available in many streams for weeks to come, and year round in Holdover and Trophy Trout Lakes as well as Seasonal and Year Round Trout Conservation Areas.

Additionally, the hatchery distributed a record total poundage of fish, meaning the average size of fish was greater than in any past year. See Get out and enjoy some of the best fishing anywhere!

Standard production trout average 10.5 inches but range up to 12 inches. By opening day, approximately 181,400 trout were stocked in the state's freshwater streams, lakes, ponds and impoundments. Less crowded waters can often be found in special regulation areas - see the Freshwater Digest for details. Anglers should remember to check brook trout for jaw tags - if one is landed you have a "Hook-a-Winner" fish! Anglers are also encouraged to let us know how the fishing is by submiting information using the on-line "E-fishing Log."
